Family Tunes & Tales

Family Tunes & Tales is series of free concerts at public libraries for families with young children. The experience engages the listening skills of children as they enjoy a storybook reading and thematically related craft activity.   Musicians from MSO chamber ensembles representing each of the four different sections of the orchestra - strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion - visit libraries throughout the greater Memphis region from October to April.  Librarians, volunteers and musicians work in harmony to bring classic children’s tales to life through narration, music and hands-on activity.

Family Tunes and Tales is made possible by the generosity of The First Tennessee Foundation and the Thomas W. Briggs Foundation. A grant from the Junior League of Memphis supplies the materials for the craft activities, which are managed by volunteer women at each event.
