Long Long Kang began his piano study at age of four and violin study at age of five. Mr. Kang is currently a first violinist of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Rockefeller Quartet in 2005~2006 season. In addition, he has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles in Europe, Asia, and United States, including the Carnegie Hall and the Alice Tully Hall in New York City. Mr. Kang has won many awards and scholarships including the Gold Medal of the Taipei City Violin Competition, Yamaha Academic Scholarship, Taiwan Regional Violin Competition, and he was the winner of the Concerto Competition at University of Memphis in 2007.
In addition to performing, Mr. Kang has been teaching since 1996. He was a teaching assistant at Mannes College of Music, a violin instructor at University of Arkansas at Little Rock Community School, and Arkansas School for the Blind. He is a registered Suzuki instructor and taught at University of Memphis as a violin instructor as well. In the summer of 2008, Mr. Kang taught violin and chamber music at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Michigan. He also taught violin at the Shelby County Schools Fine Arts Camp in 2009. Currently, he is an orchestra director at Shelby County Schools.
Mr. Kang holds a bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan Normal University where he majored in violin performance and music education; minored in piano performance. He also earned a Master’s degree from Mannes College of Music in New York City. Mr. Kang is currently a doctoral candidate at University of Memphis where he majors in violin performance and minors in viola performance.
